Ravenna Renovation
The client wanted a low-maintenance garden that reflected the home’s modern vibe. In the front yard, a lively palette of hardy perennials, lavender, and dwarf conifers replaced an assortment of uninteresting shrubs that had overgrown the small beds. The parking strip was planted with water-wise stepable groundcover reducing the need for supplemental water and eliminating the need to mow. The uneven backyard was transformed into a level turf area where children can play and architectural slabs define space for outdoor furniture during adult gatherings. The retaining walls were reconfigured and rebuilt with a combination of new and repurposed material from the old wall and a coping unit was added on top for additional seating. Star jasmine vines(Trachelospermum jasminoides) soften the existing fence creating a lush, green wall that defines the outdoor room.
