Hillside Hideaway

A lot on a wooded hillside presented both opportunities and challenges. A series of level terraces transformed an awkward slope, which created space for a new patio and steps.  Surrounded by plantings, the terraces function as a series of connected garden rooms that flow together, making it easy to move about the site. On the home’s entry level, architectural slabs were used to enlarge the primary patio reflecting the home’s clean lines and blending seamlessly with existing concrete. Stepable groundcover adds visual interest and natural stone steps provide a graceful transition to a flagstone patio and garden below.  In the woodland beyond, organic juniper timbers border a collection of lush, shade-loving perennials and shrubs that provide an array of colors, textures, and flowers. A combination of native and ornamental plants with a canopy of mature trees overhead, foster a sense of seclusion, the feeling that this garden could be somewhere far beyond the suburbs of Seattle.
